The transformation of the Old Sevier neighborhood and South Knoxville over the past decade has been remarkable.

When Dominion first began investing in South Knoxville, Sevier Avenue was only beginning to develop. The neighborhood was previously home to a laundromat, a rehabilitation meeting center, and vacant or underutilized warehouse buildings. There was so much potential, but the challenge was seeing past the current state and envisioning the potential this neighborhood carried. With River’s Edge, Dominion was able to be a catalyst for development in the neighborhood and enable others to see this vision. Since 2016, South Knoxville and the Old Sevier Neighborhood have experienced a boom of additional businesses and new residents. Thanks to this growth, our residents at River’s Edge, City South, 612 South, and South Banks can enjoy a life full of activities and experiences all within walking distance of their homes.

To start a morning in Old Sevier, you can grab a coffee at Honeybee Coffee Shop which is situated in a restored historic building right at the beginning of the Old Sevier neighborhood making it the perfect location to watch the neighborhood wake up and come to life. Once you’ve fueled up for the morning, you can make your way to a workout at South Landing Fitness, Yoga and Pilates at Bliss Integrated Bodywork, or training at LB Endurance Lab. The neighborhood has so many different options for health and fitness and the trainers on staff are some of the best in the city.

After your workout, the neighborhood is the perfect place to find a delicious meal. With options including Redbud Kitchen, Angry Dumplings, South Coast Pizza, Landing House, SoKno Taco, and 71 South you can find any cuisine from sandwiches to Tex-Mex to Cambodian fusion. You won’t be disappointed with any of these diverse flavor choices.

After a delicious meal, there are several interesting and fun ways to spend an afternoon in South Knoxville. Make your way to Ijams Nature Center or Baker Creek Preserve to hike, bike, and spend time outdoors. Shop for vintage items at Mood Ring Vintage, find a new houseplant at Stanley’s Greenhouse, or pick up a locally designed T-shirt at Borderland Tees. If you’re in the area on the last Sunday of the month you can also shop in the monthly Old Sevier Market. This event brings in artisans and makers from all around selling everything from jewelry to baked goods. You can even knock out some of your errands in Old Sevier: Chopper Barbershop and Bee’s Knees Salon offer great barbering and hairstyling and Riverside Vet Clinic provides quality care for neighborhood pets.

Once you’ve wrapped up your afternoon, be sure to explore the thriving brewery scene in South Knoxville. The first brewery in the neighborhood was Alliance and they have since been joined by Printshop on Island Home Ave, Hi-Wire on Sevier Avenue, and most recently Crafty at Baker Creek. In addition to these breweries, Trailhead and South Side Garage both offer a selection of beers and ciders from all over the world. If the night calls for cocktails, Fly by Night is the place to go. This 70s themed bar feels like stepping back in time with unique drinks and food. With all these options, it’s hard to be bored in South Knoxville. In addition to all that the neighborhood offers today, there is even more on the way. Legacy Parks is working to create a Rail to Trail Art Walk in the neighborhood, Simpl Restaurant is set to open at South Banks Apartments soon, and the Kerns Bakery Food Hall that will be opening its doors shortly will be bringing even more dining and entertainment to the area!

The transformation of the Old Sevier neighborhood and South Knoxville in the past decade has been incredible. As an early investor, we at Dominion are proud of our contributions to the neighborhood’s success. As we continue to grow with this neighborhood, we are eager to create more opportunities for businesses to thrive and for residents to have fulfilling and vibrant lives.
