Curtis Glover the Muralist

Artist Spotlight

Ep. 2

February 2, 2024

For Curtis, a mural is more than just paint on a wall; it's a mirror reflecting community aspirations.

Muralist Curtis Glover is a local Knoxville storyteller, painting narratives that infuse vibrancy onto our city walls. His artistic journey wasn't a linear path but rather an intricate tapestry woven with passion, serendipity, and the pursuit of creative autonomy.

In Curtis' words, art is a language that transcends labels. From childhood sketches to a detour in college baseball, his artistic interests stayed with him until a pivotal moment ignited his creative passion. Faced with the need to carve his artistic path, he embarked on a journey that adorned Knoxville's walls with rich colors and stories.

Reflecting on his milestones, Curtis recalls the Boyd’s Jig & Reel stage mural as a significant catalyst into professional mural artistry. "That mural marked a turning point, a leap into the professional world of mural artistry," he reminisces. Another memorable piece, the thought-provoking pit bull mural in Memphis, became a platform to challenge perceptions and spark dialogues.

Beneath the surface of his murals lies a world of intricate processes. There are times when Curtis navigates various technical challenges in projects, such as the mural next to South Banks apartments developed and managed by Dominion. "Despite architectural complexities, capturing the essence of South Knoxville's lifestyle and culture is my aim," he affirms.

For Curtis, a mural is more than just paint on a wall; it's a mirror reflecting community aspirations. "I aim to inspire curiosity and encapsulate South Knoxville's vivacity through a kaleidoscope of colors," he states, illustrating his artistic intent.

Drawing an analogy to life's journey, Curtis compares it to a rollercoaster - a blend of highs, lows, and unexpected turns. "Just like life, my murals weave together experiences, inviting viewers on an evocative visual journey," he shares.

In Curtis Glover's art, Knoxville finds its voice - stories untold, perspectives challenged, and a celebration of diversity.
